About Art Auctions
Art auctions are the "secondary" market,
selling on behalf of
the vendor.
It is unlawful for an artist to sale its work in a straight line at the auction.
If you purchase a work of art at an auction,
you ought to allow extra money (above the hammer price) for the "buyer's
premium" witch is
around 20%
plus GST.
A high quality auction house charge higher
premium but they sell higher-quality art with more meticulously researched
provenance. The 'vendor' "the sealer's premium", insurance, transport, photography, catalogue
etc is deducted from the hammer's price.
